M&S putney
background
This former M&S store had been derelict for eight years, with fire damage, asbestos and multiple roof deck types across interconnected zones. Each roof section required individual assessment to determine retention, strip-out or replacement.
Project overview
APA Roofing & Waterproofing delivered a cold-applied liquid waterproofing solution at M&S Putney, supporting the long-term performance of the roof area.
The project has since been recognised at the LRWA Awards 2026, receiving Highly Commended in the category Liquid Waterproofing Project of the Year (>1000m), reflecting a collaborative team effort across the wider APA Group and project partners.

The brief
- Provide a robust liquid waterproofing system suitable for a large roof area.
- Deliver safely and efficiently after a long period of store closure.
- Achieve a high-quality finish with strong detail work around penetrations and upstands.
The solution
A warm roof system with a polyurethane liquid-applied membrane was installed across all areas. Timber firring and tapered insulation created appropriate falls, directing water across sloped and flat decks. Deep drainage channels, integrated gutters and extensive detailing added to the challenges, together with co-ordination of multiple trades and restricted acceess.

Delivery and collaboration
This recognition reflects the combined effort of the wider APA Group, including support from APA Height Access Ltd, alongside APA Roofing & Waterproofing.
